This post is an answer to the Case – Easy Bruising and Diffuse Rash
Scurvy is a disease caused by a deficiency of vitamin C (ascorbic acid), which is essential for collagen synthesis and maintaining healthy connective tissue. It commonly develops in individuals with poor nutrition, especially those lacking fresh fruits and vegetables.
Early symptoms include fatigue, weakness, and irritability, followed by swollen, bleeding gums, joint pain, and easy bruising. As the condition progresses, impaired wound healing and anemia may occur. Although rare today, scurvy can still be seen in high-risk populations. It is easily treated and prevented by restoring adequate vitamin C intake through diet or supplementation.
